|
On Monday 25th January Stockton BDC manager Andrew Mudd approached the HASSRA committee to ask if they could arrange a fund-raiser for the Haiti Earthquake Victims. Coincidentally one of the committee members had brought in a copy of her local newspaper"Newton News" featuring an article about the local Rotary Club appealing for sponsorship for Shelterboxes. The committee decided to act quickly & arranged a charity day within 48 hours! So on Wednesday 27th January everyone dressed down & made their donations, the cakes were baked, sold & eaten& raffle tickets were sold to win 15 prizes. By the end of Wednesday a fantastic £1033.42 had been raised. | ||
This was presented to the Rotary Club President Jean Thompson last Saturday. Jean thanked club secretary Carol Graham and treasurer Liz Foulger asking them to take back the gratitude of the Rotary Club to BDC staff. The money will buy 2 Shelterboxes bringing hope and relief to 20 family members suffering extreme hardship as a result of the earthquake.
