Rifle Shooting

Welcome to Rifle Shooting

The CSSC (Civil Service Sports Council) Sports and Leisure Target Shooting Association (TSA) organises a small-bore rifle meeting annually, usually at Hendon, Middlesex. HASSRA enters a team of four in the inter-departmental championship. The team is selected on the basis of the HASSRA Rifle Championship shot over the previous winter.

The CSSC TSA also presents a trophy and medal to the top DWP shooter in the individual championships.

A Postal National Championship, open to members of HASSRA, will be held during the winter for the Sir Alec Atkinson Trophy. The results will be used to select a team for the CSTSA national Championships to be held at Hendon in April 2009. In addition an ‘improvement’ competition will be held for the Eley trophy. Conditions will be the same as the Championship competition and the Macrae Handicap system will be used. An average must be submitted.

Conditions: For both competitions NSRA postal rules will apply. Course of fire will be four British NSRA (1989 series) short range cards i.e. 40 shots – 10 consecutive at each target: these do not have to be completed on the same day. 0.22 ammunition to be used. Cards may be shot from receipt stickers. The closing date for shooting both competitions is 2nd March 2009. The two competitions can be shot concurrently.

There will be up to four classes for the Championship if there are sufficient entries:

Class ‘A’ : 97.0 and above

Class ‘B’ : 95.0 to 96.9

Class ‘C’ : 92.0 to 94.9

Class ‘D’ : under 92.0

Entries: Entries should be sent to Janet Bailey who will supply the appropriate stickers. Entrants should be a member of a club and have access to an approved range. Competitors must have their averages certified by their club secretary. Entries must be received by 29th November 2008. Click here for an entry form.

Awards: The Sir Alec Atkinson Trophy and the Eley Trophy will be held for one year. All class winners and the Eley Trophy winner will be awarded momentoes.

If you are interested in taking up target shooting or want to come back after a lay-off, I will help you make contact with a local club. Although we concentrate on small-bore rifle, I am happy to give advice on air rifle and air pistol.

I am particularly interested in finding established shooters who are eligible to join HASSRA.
