The winner of sportsman of the year has retained the HASSRA inter-association crown green bowls singles title and went through the entire year undefeated in the team event. Congratulations go to Derek Ainsworth of Kirby JCP.

As ever, there were several strong contenders this year and the awards committee had a difficult task in deciding the winner. Birkenhead CMEC are to be highly commended for their efforts this year. They were however beaten by a fantastic effort from the winning club, who provided a superb range of sporting, cultural and social activities this year. Congratulations to our worthy winner Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale club.

Ashworth POA Charity Trophy

This trophy is awarded to the event organiser or team manager who has been the most successful in organising and running a HASSRA competition in 2009.

This year’s winner has been involved in their chosen sport of darts for some years and is a HASSRA stalwart. K C Martin Trophy

This trophy is awarded to the club that produces the best newsletter for their members.

There were several excellent nominations this year and the awards committee were most impressed by the effort which had obviously gone into these publications. Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale club’s newsletter was informative and well constructed and is to be highly commended. However it was just pipped by the winning newsletter, which was informative, professionally laid out and easy to read. Congratulations to the winning club Bootle HSE and keep up the good work.
