HASSRA South East winners at Conference

Ray’s Roundup!

  • Well the summer is now over (did it ever arrive?) and it certainly finished in style by trying to drown our Special Event team in Sheffield! A great event, just a shame about the constant downpour on the Friday, but nice to see the team all dressed up at the School Prom. They all performed well, dancing, gaming, quizzing, running around and bouncing on those spacehoppers, as well as not getting lost in Sheffield on the Treasure Hunt.
  • Although we didn’t win, the team spirit was as we’ve come to expect from the South East and I know that our first timers at the event had a good time despite the weather. Let’s hope we have better luck in 2010 at Canterbury, we can but hope.
  • You should have now all seen copies of the latest SEView – apologies to my fellow Regions for my mistake on the cover – we won Best Association for 2007, not 2008. Sorry, just thinking in advance!
  • The next issue will be the Christmas one, so any articles you’d like us to include please send us the details, and remember that your pictures are always welcome.
  • Fantasy Football has again been very well supported and the latest results are now on this site, so check them out and see how you are doing so far.
  • Still a couple of seats available on the Lille and Bruges trip, just drop us an e-mail.
  • Sports Day Photo’s still available to view and worth a glance – here’s the link:

  • Membership Benefits - Remember Christmas will soon be here, so check out the benefits and save on those presents! We have a good stock of Cinema tickets so order away, still time to catch Mama Mia and remember that the new James Bond is released at the end of October.

  • Don’t forget we also now have the National Trust tickets, going fast so book early to avoid disappointment

HASSRA To Celebrate 75 Years

Dear All,

HASSRA South East are planning to have photos on display at our 2010 Special event: Viva Las Vegas

These are to celebrate 75 years of ‘HASSRA’ (and its previous incarnations).

With this in mind we would like every region to delve into their supplies of photos and newspaper clips from the past!

Ideally, we would like something showing:

  • Particular moments of triumph (A national win possibly)
  • At least one photo showing a regional team in the regional colours (whatever they were at the time!)
  • Funny moments
  • Fondly remembered faces from the past.
  • Special Event memories
  • Sportsday memories
  • Something recent
  • An assortment of events
  • Anything you think fellow HASSRA members would be interested in!

When you find items you think will be appropriate please label the back of photos and enclose newspaper clippings in plastic wallet with label.

The label should include:

  • The name of the person and region they came from so we can get them back to you.
  • Date of item (if known).

Enclose any details you think would be interesting and send items to:

Stamps Wanted

Dear Friends,

I am writing to say a thank you for helping us in our fundraising efforts by helping us collect as many stamps as possible. Your stamps are great and wish we had more contacts like yourselves! Any amount large or small is much appreciated. I can assure you that every stamp you send, British or Foreign will help raise money for the Royal National Institute of the Blind. Please note the new address for stamps to be sent to. Stamps can be sent to me or directly to our buyer at RNIB, PO Box 6198, Leighton Buzzard, LU7 9XT. All correspondence must be sent to me at the address above.

Please could you ask your family and, and contacts to save their stamps for us and please could they have approximately 1cm of envelope surrounding the stamp to prevent damage, but don’t panic if this isn’t possible and have the back of the envelope removed as well. (Works out cheaper to send as well). If stamps could be separated into two categories, British and foreign this would be most helpful. Anything outside mainland Britain is classed as overseas. The stamps do not have to be sorted into individual countries or prices etc. Please ask the Post Office to put stamps on your letters and parcels and not a franked label! PLEASE DO NOT remove the stamp off the envelope as they are damaged easily if they are.

The amount we raise is different every time, depending on how much foreign we have. A person’s collection could be worth hardly anything, but one stamp could be worth a lot of money. Even a British 2nd class stamp would be worth more if it has a misprint etc. Stamps are sold to collectors all over the world. The stamps are sorted into British and Foreign and are bought from us by a very trustworthy buyer. We get approximately £1.50 a kilo for UK and approximately £10 a kilo for foreign. We only managed to raise £2,582 in the tax year of 2005-2006, so again we are aiming to raise £3,500 for the tax year of 2006-2007.

We are desperate for more contacts to send us their stamps in Great Britain and overseas so please spread the word of our appeal to anyone and everyone. We can not provide over sixty services to blind and partially sighted children and adults without your support. I can also send details onto anyone via email so please pass on my email address to anyone who can help us. Remember this is an ongoing appeal and so stamps can be delivered at anytime of the year, whenever it suits you.

Please contact me by letter, telephone or email if you have any questions.

I thank you for your support and happy collecting!

Kind regards

Mrs Terri Bush
