HASSRA Live

HASSRA South East Golf Society

Following cancellation of our scheduled first event in April, the 2021 season kicked off in May with our usual visit to Chartham Park golf club at Tunbridge Wells.

The day comprised of a 9 hole Texas Scramble in the morning followed by an 18 hole individual Stableford competition in the afternoon. The morning event was won by the team of Steve, Paul and Tom with a score of 34.1. The runners up were Guy, Paul and Alex on 33.6. Following lunch the individual event was won by Sam with 33 points closely followed by our captain Carlo on 32 points. Dave won nearest the pin and Carlo grabbed the nearest the pin in 2nd prize.

The 2021 HASSRA golf day was well attended and held at Westerham Golf Club in Kent in June. This was the HASSRA national qualifier with the winning 2 men and 2 ladies going forward to the HASSRA National in September to represent he Region. This was a medal event with the winning gross score of 82 going to Mark H and Steve taking the nett score of 72 after countback. Mark H and Steve will be going forward to the National event. Unfortunately we did not have any lady players. Combined with the day was our normal golf society stableford event which was won by Brian with 36 points. Nearest the pin was Mark H and longest dive went to Alex. It was great to see some old faces returning for the day.

The first half of the season finished with our annual triangular match, ‘The Trew Cup’, against the East of England and London Regions. This has always been a closely fought competition and this year proved no different. It was our Regions turn to host the event and we held it at Chartham Park Golf Club in July.

Each Region brought a team of ten players going out in groups of three, one from each Region. This was a Stableford event with the player with the highest number of points in their group getting 3 points for their Region. The second highest got 2 points and third, one point. Last time the event was played South East missed out on winning the trophy by half a point! On this occasion, however, the tables were reversed and we managed to get our hands on the trophy again - by just a half point. We scored 21 points overall, London 20.5 and East of England 18.5. Individual prizes were also awarded to players from each Region with Mark C getting both the best points score and nearest the pin for our Region. An excellent performance from all our players and we are looking forward to defending the trophy at East Herts Golf Club in 2022.
