Do you fancy yourself as the new Shakespeare, Chaucer or Dickens? Or maybe you just want to share your thoughts and feelings in a poem. Whatever your reasons, get involved.


 The HASSRA Writing Competition will commence on 1st July with a closing date of 31st August.

Members may make one entry in each of the following categories:

All works must be original. 

Entrants are deemed to have given permission for their entries to be published by HASSRA.

Entries in the Short Story and Non-Fiction categories must not exceed 3,000 words.

Entries in the Poetry category must not exceed 40 lines.

All entries including your full name and region must be submitted to HASSRAWRITINGCOMPETITION@OUTLOOK.COM by 31st August 2020.

Entries must be submitted electro­­nic­­ally and double spaced (if you do not have access to an electronic device please contact us). 

Entrants will be deemed to have given permission for their entries to be published by HASSRA.


Category winners will each receive a £100 Love2Shop voucher - the overall winner will also receive a £50 voucher!

Runner Up in each category will receive a £50 Love2Shop voucher.

Highly Commended entries will each receive a £20 Love2Shop voucher.


Judging will be undertaken anonymously and will be based on the following criteria:

  1. Technique
  2. Originality
  3. Enter­­ta­­inment Value

​The judges' decisions are final and no discussions will be entered into following the announcement of winners. 

Publication of entries

All entries will be available on HASSRA Live, anonymously until the judging process is complete.  Winning entries will also be published in the Autumn edition of Livelife. HASSRA reserves the right to publish entries through other channels in addition to the foregoing
