Photography Workshop

HASSRA Studio Photography Workshop

University of Warwick, Coventry.

Saturday 9th September 2022

This is an Open event therefore regions are invited to submit names of all members who want to participate.

However we do have a maximum number who can participate. In the event that we have more names than places available, a random draw will take place.

The Workshop

Aimed at enthusiast photographers our studio photography workshop, ran by HASSRA members Kevin Donegan and Phil Vaughan, will be teaching the basics of studio lighting for both male and female subjects.

Attendees will be taught how to prepare for their own shoots, the type of equipment they might need and camera settings before setting up the studio, and how to best position the lights.

We will then move onto teaching studio photography techniques where we will work on (some, if not all, of the following) portrait composition, directing the subject, posing tools, use of dark and light backgrounds, we will use a flattering but simple two-light system of umbrellas, a modelling lamp, off camera flash and natural light.

How to use the equipment and the best camera settings will be explained in detail as we go through the day and attendees will learn how to achieve the best results. We will also work with the models and attendees will have ample time to direct their own photographs and build some gorgeous portfolio shots.

Time allowing, at the end of the day we will spend time in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to process your photographs. Looking at Lightroom workflows, pre-sets, cropping, shadows and highlights with both colour and black and white images.
