Ian Davies
When did you join HASSRA?
1989
What roles have you had/ or do you have in HASSRA? (National and/or Regional)
I've been a member of the HASSRA Fylde BoM for as long as I can recall and was part of the grounds committee from when we moved to the new grounds - before becoming the deputy and then the Grounds Lead, a position I still hold. When HASSRA Fylde dispensed with the services of the part-time grounds-person, the cricket club took over maintenance of the cricket square, a steep learning curve. I now lead on that - and I am pleased to say that the playing surfaces have improved! I was 1st XI cricket captain for 11 seasons, and I am the current chairperson - a position I have held for over a decade, as well as safeguarding officer and lead junior coordinator. I have represented HASSRA Fylde in the national indoor cricket competition.
What Awards/Achievements have you had in HASSRA/CSSC?
Awarded Life Membership in 2018.
Norcross CC and some of its teams and individual members have been successful in HASSRA Fylde's Annual Awards. I have been named sports person of the year on two occasions. I have received awards from CSSC - recognition of my volunteering - I ran the Blackpool & Fylde Curtis Bennett representative cricket team for over 20 years, captaining the side that won the Plate trophy on two occasions and reaching the final of the main competition. I have played for the CSSC National team, and I received a long service award in 2024. The CSSC 6s competition - I have played in the national finals several times, becoming national champions on one occasion. As well as being an HASSRA Fylde life member, I am also a life member of Norcross CC (and I still pay my subs for both!).
What Awards/Achievements have you had outside of HASSRA/CSSC?
As part of my coaching within grass roots cricket and as part of the Lancashire pathway - coaching inter-league and district cricket teams over many years - Lancashire County Cricket club have recognised my volunteering through awards and invites to Lancashire games and events. Wyre Council Sports Awards - I have been recognised for my volunteering and received a lifetime achievement award. In the 2013 cricket season, I was the highest wicket taker in the Moore & Smalley Palace Shield Cricket Competiton with 82 wickets. Hopefully, my biggest achievement will be passing on my knowledge and passion for the game to junior players who enjoy playing cricket, playing at the highest standard they can and remaining within the game.
