Simon Jowitt
When did you join HASSRA?
I joined HASSRA in 2000
What roles have you had/ or do you have in HASSRA? (National and/or Regional)
I started off by joining the committee of my office site club (LSA) and was on there for around 3 years.
I then took a break when I moved to another site before I was encouraged to join the Regional Board due to a football tournament, I was helping to organise that had input from HASSRA. Once on there I joined a sub-committee tasked with organising and publicising events throughout Fylde, as well as overseeing the Festivals for the regional and became the de facto deputy. Then when the lead moved on, I took on the overall responsibility and have done that for over 10 years.
From my experience within the region, when the National team formed the Product Delivery Committee I was encouraged to put my name forward and was elected onto the board and have been re-elected onto there twice more.
Then in 2023 I took on the role of Regional Vice-Chair of Fylde.
What Awards/Achievements have you had in HASSRA/CSSC?
I have won the Fylde Volunteer of the Year 3 times (2016, 2017 & 2020)
I won the Fylde Best Sportsperson (2022)
I won the HASSRA National Volunteer of the Year Award, the first member from Fylde to do so, in 2017.
What Awards/Achievements have you had outside of HASSRA/CSSC?
In what little spare time I have I am a cricket umpire and in 2022 won the Best Club Umpire Award, when I was umpire for Norcross Cricket Club, which is a HASSRA Fylde affiliated club.
I then moved to umpiring at a higher level in the local league and in 2024 won the Best New Umpire Award.
