Chair

The Chair is answerable to the sponsor, ensuring that the activities of the club always take place in a proper and responsible manner, and that club activities are never the cause of embarrassment to the Department.

The Chair is:

  • Accountable for ensuring that the affairs of the club are properly conducted, in accordance with its constitution, and with statutory requirements e.g. by conducting a monthly finance check to ensure that petty cash held, and the bank statement, balance with the cashbook.
  • Responsible, In the case of a club covering several locations, for ensuring that all site Managers are aware of contact details for the sponsor and committee members, in case of any queries regarding events held on their sites.

Who should be the Chair?

For Office Clubs, the Chair must be a full HASSRA member who is currently employed by DWP or another sponsoring Department.

For Single Activity Clubs, the Chair does not need to be currently employed by DWP or a sponsoring Department; they may instead be a retired member or a member employed by a Departmental Contractor.
