The Regional Championship Shield

THE SOUTH EAST REGIONAL ANGLING CHAMPION
The Regional Championship Trophy was originally donated by Sydney Evans our Group Manager at the time. Although not an angler he was very supportive of the Society in its
early days.

Sadly, the original Trophy went missing and has been replaced by the one shown below. Deciding the Regional Champion has changed over the years. Initially, from 1973, when the Angling Society was formed, to early 1980’s it was decided on one single competition held in June. As interest grew the June competition became The Summer Shield and two other competitions were added to the calendar: - The Claude Evans Competition and The Winter Shield. Points are awarded to the top 12 anglers of each competition and the angler with the most points at the end of the season is crowned The Regional Champion. The Regional Champion, along with the second and third placed represent the Region at the National Finals. Also the top six anglers represent the Region each year in two Inter Regional Competitions, The McCoy Trophy v South West Region and The Ash Trophy v East of England and London.
